In August 2019, Assos enters new territory: the **Zegho G2** is the brand’s first cycling glasses. Developed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens, handcrafted in Italy, weighing just 27.5 grams. For an apparel brand that spent 43 years exclusively building textiles and chamois, it’s a remarkable step.

## The technology

The **V-TORIC lens** by Zeiss sits rimless in an adaptive composite frame. The tunnelView technology — Assos’ own term for the extended field of vision — comes from the predecessor model but has been refined. The lens sits lower and narrower than in the first generation.

Two lens tints: **Interceptor Black** for bright conditions, **Dragonfly Copper** for changing and low light. Every pair comes with an additional clear Crystal lens. Swapping works via the [**triggerClick**](https://www.biketoday.news/article/introducing-the-assos-zegho-g2-the-definitive-form-of-cycling-specific-eye-protection) — a push-to-change mechanism on the inside of the temple arm. No bending, no effort.

For glasses wearers, there’s an integrated RX insert for prescription lenses.

## 22 steps, 37 hands

The [Zegho G2](https://road.cc/content/news/47673-assos-launch-their-first-cycling-glasses-video) is built by nine European specialist manufacturers, each delivering a specifically engineered component. 22 production steps, 37 people physically involved. This isn’t a mass product — it’s artisanal manufacturing.

## Assessment

Assos versus Oakley, 100% or POC? Not really. The Zegho G2 is aimed at Assos customers who want to complete their system — same brand, same quality philosophy. The price sits in the premium segment, which is hardly surprising with Zeiss lenses and Italian handcrafting. Whether the glasses will be as style-defining as the first Lycra shorts remains to be seen. But as the first non-textile product, they show where Assos is heading.
