# Thirty Years of Giroclinica — Enervit and the Giro d'Italia

> From 1973 to 2003, Equipe Enervit ran its own mobile clinic at the Giro d’Italia: the Giroclinica. For thirty years, Enervit's scientists measured, advised and cared for the peloton.

A mobile laboratory that travels through Italy with the Giro d’Italia for three weeks. Blood samples, hydration tests, nutritional advice between stages. When Enervit launched the [**Giroclinica**](https://www.enervit.com/en/history) in 1973, it was an idea that no one else in the peloton had.

The Giroclinica was a mobile laboratory and medical center that traveled with the race through Italy. Fully equipped with analytical and advisory capabilities, it offered the riders nutritional support that was not available anywhere else in the peloton at the time. It was run by Equipe Enervit — an interdisciplinary team of doctors, researchers and nutritionists, officially founded in 1976.

The figures speak for themselves: over 10,000 laboratory tests on riders before, during and after races, more than 100,000 kilometers traveled. Thirty editions of the Giro d’Italia, from 1973 to 2003.

What the Giroclinica meant for Enervit was more than just being present at the big race. The systematic collection of data under race conditions flowed directly into product development. How much carbohydrate can riders cope with in the Alps? What happens to the mineral balance over three weeks of racing? Answers that only a laboratory in a racing environment can provide.

In 2024, Enervit was once again involved in the Giro — as a nutrition partner for the 107th race, albeit no longer in the embedded Giroclinica role. The [partnership](https://www.cyclist.co.uk/sponsored/enervit-nutrition-cycling), which began in 1973, has shaped the brand like no other chapter in its history.
