The Shimano S-PHYRE SL (CE-SPSL2) is an ultra-lightweight, frameless cycling glasses with a single-piece lens for maximum visibility on the road. In the Black Sapphire version, it comes with the RIDESCAPE AR (All‑Road) lens, whose blue multi-layer mirror coating and 14% VLT deliver clear vision from sunny to overcast conditions – on tarmac as well as gravel. The lens, bonded using ultrasonic welding, reduces distortion and, combined with the wide field of view, produces an exceptionally stable image. At the same time, the glasses offer UV400 protection, an oleophobic coating, and a particularly robust scratch-resistant treatment, making them ideal for long rides across Switzerland.

Technical Details and Features

The RIDESCAPE lenses are based on an exceptionally clear polyamide (PA) with a low refractive index and high Abbe value, which minimises chromatic aberration and enhances detail clarity. The AR lens in particular covers a wide range of conditions with around 14% VLT and performs brighter in practice than the figure might suggest. The combination of UV400, oleophobic inner and outer coatings, and a highly resistant scratch-resistant layer keeps your vision clear even in rain, dust, and sweat. For fit, Shimano uses a reversible nose pad with different thicknesses front and back, along with shortened temples that fit under current road and gravel helmets. Additional TPE temple tips improve grip, while the ultrasonic weld between the lens and the nose piece/"invisible" frame smooths airflow.

The frame is made from Rilsan Clear G850 Rnew, a bio-based polyamide that requires less petroleum than conventional plastics. The material comes from the Rilsan family by Arkema, which – depending on the type – contains a high proportion of bio-based carbon, reducing overall resource consumption. Shimano also puts thought into the packaging: the sturdy paper hard case replaces a traditional plastic box, and the rPET pouch reduces your everyday footprint. Also included in the box is an XL nose pad, so you can quickly fine-tune the fit.
