Lazer Genesis MIPS Helmet – matte black (Unisex)
The Lazer Genesis MIPS is an ultralight road racing helmet and comes here in the color Matte Black as a unisex model. Developed in collaboration with UCI WorldTour teams, it sets clear standards for weight, ventilation and fit without compromising on safety. According to the manufacturer, the Genesis is the lightest helmet Lazer has ever built and is delivered with two pad sets for Race or Comfort. In size S the specified weight is 195 g, while independent tests measure around 210 g in size M – both very light for a helmet with MIPS protective layer.
- Ultralight: from 195 g in size S (CE); independent measurements approx. 210 g in M.
- MIPS Brain Protection System for additional protection in oblique impacts.
- Advanced Rollsys System (ARS) with top-mounted dial, Ponytail-friendly and with Adjustable Head Basket.
- 22 ventilation openings with internal channels for efficient cooling.
- Two pad sets (Race/Comfort) and X-Static padding.
- Compatible with Lazer Aeroshell for weather protection and aero benefits.
- Colors include Matte Black; sizes S (52–56 cm), M (55–59 cm), L (58–61 cm).
Technical details and features
The Advanced Rollsys System (ARS) distributes pressure evenly around the entire head and thus prevents pressure points; at the same time the height can be finely adjusted via the Adjustable Head Basket. The extensive 22-vent architecture with internal channels moves air noticeably through the helmet, which helps regulate temperature on long climbs and in summer heat. For padding, Lazer includes a second, thinner Race set in addition to the X-Static comfort padding, with which a few grams can be saved. The Genesis is Aeroshell-compatible, so the front and side openings can be closed for more aerodynamics and weather protection. Sizes S (52–56 cm), M (55–59 cm) and L (58–61 cm) are available, covering the fit for most head shapes in Switzerland.
Use cases and benefits
The Genesis MIPS is the right choice for ambitious road racers who ride long Alpine passes, hot summer days and changeable weather in Switzerland. Thanks to its very low weight and balanced center of gravity it sits unobtrusively on the head, which is particularly noticeable on steep, long uphills. In wet or windy flat sections the optional Aeroshell provides more calm and protection, while with the helmet open the ventilation was rated very highly in tests. The design sacrifices full under-shell coverage of the lower EPS edge for the sake of weight, which can be slightly more prone to cosmetic marks – a fair trade-off for gram hunters. From the pro ranks the Genesis is well known and has been ridden, among others, by Mathieu van der Poel, which further underlines its performance orientation.
Fit and sizing advice
For optimal fit measure head circumference just above the eyebrows and ears and compare the value with Lazer’s size chart. The top-mounted ARS dial allows precise adjustment even while riding, and the vertical adjustment via the Adjustable Head Basket creates room for individual head shapes as well as ponytail wearers. Those seeking maximum lightness use the Race pads; for daily training rides the Comfort pads offer more contact surface. If needed, the Aeroshell can be fitted as an accessory for additional aerodynamics and weather protection. Sizes: S 52–56 cm, M 55–59 cm, L 58–61 cm.
Safety and quality notes
The Genesis is available with MIPS and has been positioned by Lazer as the lightest helmet of the brand, without compromising on the basic safety requirements. Manufacturer information refers to a 5‑star rating for the G1 MIPS in rotational impact tests; the North American CPSC model was tested, which is considered the US version of the Genesis. For Switzerland the CE variants and the size indications in centimeters are relevant; the product is marketed with a Crash Replacement Program and a 30‑day money‑back guarantee from the manufacturer, each according to their terms. Independent reviews highlight the very low weight, the strong ventilation and the high wearing comfort, but also point out that the helmet is not designed as an aero specialist.
