Lazer Unisex Road Sphere MIPS Helmet
The Lazer Sphere MIPS is a versatile road and gravel helmet for adult riders that combines comfort, ventilation and protection for everyday use. At its heart is the Advanced Rollsys® (ARS) adjustment system with 360° adaptation that distributes pressure evenly and is also ponytail-compatible. The shell is in-mold manufactured and integrates a polycarbonate roll-cage as well as reflective stickers for better visibility in traffic. The helmet is available in four sizes from S to XL (61–64 cm) and weighs from 250 g (Size S CE); in practical tests, around 270 g was measured depending on size.
- MIPS safety system to reduce rotational forces during angled impacts.
- Advanced Rollsys® (ARS) with top-mounted dial and height adjustment for precise fit.
- Well ventilated: 14 ventilation openings and internal channels; total of 18 inlets and outlets for directed airflow.
- Aeroshell-compatible: optional cover for weather protection and aerodynamic advantage.
- Glasses docking with specially shaped slots; thinner straps and reflective stickers.
- Polycarbonate bottom shell protects the EPS foam from cosmetic damage.
Technical Details and Features
The ARS system spans the helmet all around and thus prevents local pressure points, which is particularly noticeable on long rides. Via the adjustable retention ring, the vertical position can be finely adjusted to head shape and headwear without disturbing glasses. Ventilation openings with internal channels provide air exchange, directing airflow purposefully from front to back; the construction is designed for a natural riding position. The MIPS layer complements the classic EPS/polycarbonate construction and can reduce rotational forces transmitted to the brain in certain impact scenarios. The integrated polycarbonate roll-cage holds the foam together after a crash and provides additional protection against subsequent impacts; bottom shell and reflective stickers increase durability and visibility in everyday use.
Applications and Benefits
Whether road cycling over Swiss passes, quick after-work rides or gravel dirt roads: the Sphere MIPS is designed for versatile use. With the optional Aeroshell, you can close the front and side openings – practical in rain, cold or when you want a little aero bonus. The ventilation is developed for typical head inclination while riding, so airflow remains stable even on long climbs and reduces overheating. The glasses docking holds your sunglasses securely when lighting conditions change, and the slim straps lie quietly, which is pleasant on fast descents. Thanks to unisex fit and ponytail-friendly rear design, the helmet fits many head shapes – important when you switch between commuting, training and weekend tours.
Additional Notes on Safety and Rating
The Sphere MIPS was previously rated with very good protection in independent lab tests (Virginia Tech); an earlier measured STAR score around 10.3 led to a top rating in its class. Since July 2025, however, the Virginia Tech lab has recalibrated its star thresholds, so the number of 5-star helmets has reduced industry-wide; generally 4- and 5-star models are now considered recommended. This adjustment doesn't change anything about the Sphere MIPS construction, but helps to better understand current rankings. If lab data is important to you, it's worth a quick look at the latest tables, as these are continuously updated.
