React Rev Nova Black

The React Rev Nova Black is a Swiss-Made sports sunglass that automatically adapts its tint to changing light in just 0.1 s. At its heart is ShadeTronic technology, which covers the tint range S2 to S4 continuously and does so entirely without a battery. The Nova Black variant features a violet mirror coating that deliberately enhances contrasts in green-dominated environments — for example in the forest. Thanks to a polarized lens with UV400 protection and a lightweight, adjustable frame, it’s made for ambitious rides in Switzerland as well as daily commuting by bike.

  • 0.1 s fast, automatic tinting thanks to ShadeTronic (electrochromic LCD), range S2–S4.
  • Violet Nova coating for high-contrast vision in green terrain; frame color Black.
  • UV400 protection, polarized to reduce glare, runs without charging thanks to integrated solar cells.
  • Fine-tunable fit: adjustable nose pads (2 positions), tiltable temples (frame tilt angle) and formable temple ends.
  • Lightweight setup at approx. 40 g and high-quality workmanship, Swiss Made.
  • Includes Hardcase and cleaning cloth; optional prescription clip for spectacle wearers.

Technical Details and Features

The ShadeTronic lens works electrochromically via an LCD and is powered by small solar cells in the frame, meaning the glasses operate without a battery or cables. According to the manufacturer, the system reacts up to 300 times faster when darkening and 1200 times faster when brightening than conventional photochromic lenses, providing continuous vision on the trail. The tint range S2–S4 covers medium to very dark conditions, making it ideal for sunny tours, open alpine passes or reflective snowfields. The UV400 filtering protects against UVA, UVB and UVC radiation up to 400 nm, while the polarization filters minimize distracting reflections. Additionally, the Rev meets various standards such as CE/EU 2016/425 and ANSI Z80.3; the manufacturer also cites an IP65 rating.

Use Cases and Advantages

The Rev Nova Black plays to its strengths where light and shadow alternate by the second — for example on rooty MTB trails, fast Gravel sections or in changeable mountain weather. The lightning-fast tint adjustment keeps your field of view stable, while the Nova lens enhances fine contrasts in green undergrowth, making line choice and obstacle recognition easier. Reviews praise the reaction speed and the clean transition, but note that the glasses do not brighten quite as much at twilight and are therefore optimized for daytime use. Also be careful not to cover the top-centered light sensor with a deep visor so the automatic function can operate optimally.

Fit and Comfort

To keep the glasses comfortable on long rides, the frame tilt can be adjusted in steps, the nose pads offer two positions and the temple ends can be individually bent. This range of adjustments ensures a secure hold over rough gravel, in heat or during fast descents with lots of vibration. The total weight of around 40 g remains unobtrusive, while the even pressure distribution at the helmet rim provides comfort on long Alpine rounds. The solid, neatly finished frame underlines the premium claim of the Swiss‑Made construction.

Contents and Care

The scope of delivery includes a robust case and a microfiber cloth so the lens is protected and can be quickly cleaned on the go. A matching clip is available as an accessory for prescription lenses, which your optician can fit individually. Clean the lenses preferably with water and the cloth, avoid aggressive chemicals, and store the glasses dry in the case — this keeps the ShadeTronic function reliable. With the quality manufactured in Switzerland you get a durable setup for versatile everyday cycling.
