MILLE GT Ultraz WINTER JACKET

The MILLE GT Ultraz WINTER JACKET from Assos is the winter jacket for days when you'd otherwise prefer to switch to the trainer. It combines windproof and water-repellent softshell layers with high breathability, so you stay reliably warm in wet conditions, cold winds and subzero temperatures. Assos distributes several NEOS material weights strategically across the front, back and sleeves and relies on the two-layer twinDeck construction with insulating RX Heavy fleece. In the current EVO generation the jacket is, according to tests, optimized for rides just below freezing up to the single-digit positive range, making it ideal for Swiss winter conditions.

  • Front and upper back in NEOS Light + RX Heavy as twinDeck: stormproof, insulating and still breathable.
  • Sleeves with NEOS Ultra + 652.RX: a slim fit without compromising protection in exposed zones.
  • Back with NEOS Medium solo: full weather protection with reduced insulation for active thermoregulation.
  • regularFit with Raglan sleeves and 2W waistWave waist treatment for freedom of movement and a clean finish.
  • Stabilizer S7 back panel against sagging, Triple Ramp Pockets with 'flaps' for secure storage.
  • Reflective details on the pockets increase visibility in low light.
  • Field-tested temperature range around approx. −4 to +8 °C for long rides in cold and wet conditions.
  • Material performance data: water column >10’000 mm, MVP up to 27’000 g/m²/24 h (NEOS Light) and 44’500 g/m²/24 h (NEOS Ultra).

Technical details and features

Assos combines three NEOS softshell weights in this jacket to deliver protection exactly where the riding wind hits hardest. On the front and upper back the twinDeck layering of NEOS Light and RX Heavy does the work, while the sleeves with NEOS Ultra + 652.RX hit the mix of mobility, protection and insulation. The back relies on NEOS Medium without a second layer so excess heat can reliably escape without compromising weather protection. Stability is provided by the Stabilizer S7 back panel and the Triple Ramp Pockets, which secure your gear with flexible 'flaps'. The regularFit cut with Raglan sleeves and 2W waistWave at the waist remains close to the body but leaves enough room for Layering on very cold days.

Use cases and benefits

The MILLE GT Ultraz plays to its strengths when conditions in Switzerland get really unpleasant – on the road bike commuting through Zurich, on long base rides on the Swiss Plateau or on cold training loops in the pre-Alps. Thanks to the windproof front, high breathability and targeted insulation you remain capable even in wet cold without overheating. Combined with a warm Winter-Base-Layer, the jacket, according to independent tests, reliably performs in the range of around −4 to +8 °C — exactly where many cyclists otherwise dismount. The generously cut, easily accessible rear pockets work like those on a summer jersey and keep food and gloves within reach at all times. For a coordinated system the combination with Ultraz Winter Skin Layer and MILLE GT Ultraz Winter Bib Tights is recommended.

Fit and sizing advice

Assos classifies the jacket as regularFit: noticeably sporty but less compressive than the racing pieces, so you can wear additional layers underneath if needed. User reports indicate that the EVO version overall fits a little closer to the body than older Ultraz generations, without restricting freedom of movement. If you prefer a particularly relaxed fit or do a lot of layering, going one size up can make sense; for a classic, aerodynamic winter fit your usual size will usually remain appropriate. Overall the cut works well on the bike: a long back, snug sleeve cuffs and a collar that closes tightly without constricting.

Material performance in numbers

The in-house NEOS softshells are not only windproof, they also provide reliable weather protection and high moisture vapor permeability. For the front Assos specifies for NEOS Light a water column of >10’000 mm as well as a breathability of 27’000 g/m²/24 h, which keeps the jacket noticeably dry during intense training phases. On the sleeves NEOS Ultra increases the MVP to around 44’500 g/m²/24 h, which in practice improves moisture transport during cool intervals. These metrics complement the field-tested classification for rides just below freezing, so you can plan your layering strategy precisely.
